Expo 2020 is the most anticipated event of the year. However, due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, it may be delayed until 2021. The decision will be made by the organizers on Monday, March 30th during a virtual meeting. Three options will be considered – maintaining the current opening date, to delay for several months, and even next year carryover. Previously a similar problem was considered by the organizers of the Tokyo Olympics, and they decided to postpone the event for a year.
At the meeting, the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) steering committee from Paris will assess the current situation and adjusting planned preparations. A change of date requires a two-thirds majority vote from the committee’s members.
Event rescheduling may become a huge disappointment for UAE. Dubai already spent billions building attractions, hotels and facilities. All this was done in expectations for the arrival of many visitors from different countries. But in this situation all plans are subject to change.
Novel Coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2, also known as COVID-19) is a new strain of coronavirus which is causing illness in humans and animals. Most people infected with the COVID-19 coronavirus will feel mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without any special treatment. Older people, as well as those with underlying medical problems like cardiovascular disease, chronic respiratory disease, cancer or diabetes, are more likely to develop serious illness, and require immediate assistance. Novel Coronavirus was first identified in a cluster with pneumonia symptoms in Wuhan city, Hubei province of China, quickly spreading around the world. On early March 2020, the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic had officially started, becoming the defining global health crisis of our time. Today, it is the greatest challenge people have faced since World War II, worsened by subsequent lockdowns of whole countries, collapse of entire industries, and a major economic recession.
