Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced about implementing Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology in taxis across Dubai to detect passengers not wearing face masks.
According to RTA, the technologies were put in taxis to monitor violators, who not follow preventive measures. The AI technology scans human faces and determines if a mask is being worn or not. Moreover, this AI can calculate the distance between a passenger and the driver.
Ahmed Mahboub, Executive Director of Smart Services, Corporate Technology Support Services Sector, RTA said, “The use of AI technologies proved very effective and achieved a success rate of 100%. The introduction of this technology was on a trial base, and according to the deliverables, the technology will be generalized to all fleet vehicles”.
Thanks to AI technology, which can process videos spanning more than 200 thousand hours per day, human analysis becomes unnecessary. However, it is still not clear, whether Dubai Police will receive the data about such passengers, violating government directive.
Novel Coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2, also known as COVID-19) is a new strain of coronavirus which is causing illness in humans and animals. Most people infected with the COVID-19 coronavirus will feel mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without any special treatment. Older people, as well as those with underlying medical problems like cardiovascular disease, chronic respiratory disease, cancer or diabetes, are more likely to develop serious illness, and require immediate assistance. Novel Coronavirus was first identified in a cluster with pneumonia symptoms in Wuhan city, Hubei province of China, quickly spreading around the world. On early March 2020, the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic had officially started, becoming the defining global health crisis of our time. Today, it is the greatest challenge people have faced since World War II, worsened by subsequent lockdowns of whole countries, collapse of entire industries, and a major economic recession.
