As Expo 2020 Dubai has been officially postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic, UAE officials and Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) announced new dates running from October 1, 2021, to March 31, 2022.
By voting, it was found that two-thirds of the Member States would like to postpone the World Expo, as public safety and health were set the priority for every participating country. Also, this delay will give recovery time to the global business and tourism to retrieve and continue operating at full capacity.
HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Expo 2020 Dubai Higher Committee wrote in Twitter: “We are thankful to the BIE Member States for their continued commitment to contributing to a World Expo in Dubai that will play a pivotal role in shaping our post-pandemic world at a time it will be most needed.”
According to the plan, the Dubai edition of the World Expo will feature pavilions from 192 countries, which include thousands of people working hard to make a grandiose launch full of innovative technologies, designs and projects. It is expected to make restoring for countries-participants, who need time to overcome the challenges after a global pandemic.
The event will see more than 11 million visitors from all around the world over the six-month period. The new dates of Dubai Expo 2020 will give everybody a chance to prepare new ideas and innovations for an international display. At the same time, Dubai is waiting for hosting people once travel restrictions ease.
